Getting the word out on early voting sites aka satellite voting is challenging. Today, I asked 43 of the 207 voters how they found out about early voting at the HyVee on Wilson Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids. They told me:
14 – received a postcard reminder from the Auditor’s Office
9 – saw the perimeter Vote Here signs
9 – were informed by friends or family
4 – were referred by greeters at the entryway of HyVee
2 – received phone calls from a candidate or party
2 – were notified by canvassers knocking on their doors
2 – found the satellite site online
1 – specifically found the satellite site on KCRG’s website
In-person early voting (absentee voting) versus voting by mail saves taxpayers about $3.00 in USPS postage per vote cast. My goal for satellites is a minimum of 200 voters per six hour shift. Today, we met the goal while competing with Hawkeye Football.
Thank you voters! And Thank You precinct elections officials for working on a Saturday!
