Committee members disagreed on whether the appointee should run in the general election.
“I’m interested in letting the voters decide who the next supervisor is going to be,” Stierman said, later adding. “I don’t want to influence that decision by appointing somebody who is going to be running for the office.”
Dolan countered that she hoped the appointee would run for election, while Murphy said it would not be a factor in his decision.
County Supervisor Daryl Klein, a Republican, listened closely as the committee discussed options.
After the meeting, he said he supports an appointment process and believes the appointee should not run for election in November. Klein said the person would have an unfair advantage.
